Speed-Setting
In collaboration with the Federal Roads Office FEDRO, we are launching the Speed Setting pilot project. We are enabling flexible sharing mobility for riders without a driver’s license by limiting the pedal assistance of e-bikes to 25 km/h. A true game-changer for sustainable mobility!
No Driver's License Required
With Speed Setting, you don't need a driver's license to use our vehicles. Download the Pick-e-Bike app, create an account, and you're ready to go!
E-Bikes for Everyone
You use the same e-bikes from our existing fleet, now equipped with modifications for Speed Setting. That means 500 e-bikes throughout the entire region.
Drive
Limited to max. 25 km/h pedal assistance and 400W drive power. The maximum pedal assistance is displayed on the screen – a special rear light signals the slower driving mode.
Pick-e-Bike App
At Pick-e-Bike, everything runs via the Pick-e-Bike app: locating the vehicles, opening, closing and paying. The app is available as a free download for iOS and Android.

- The duration of this project is limited to two years.
Your questions,
our answers.
What is the minimum age to use Pick-e-Bikes without a driver’s license?
You must be at least 16 years old to ride Pick-e-Bikes without a driver’s license.
How do I register for Speed-Setting?
Simply install the Pick-e-Bike app on your smartphone. If you upload your ID card instead of a driver’s license during registration, you’ll automatically be enrolled in Speed-Setting.
How does renting work with Speed-Setting?
Just like usual: Select an e-bike, reserve it, put on your helmet, and start riding!
After your ride, park the e-bike properly and end your rental in the app.
Which vehicles and locations can I use with Speed-Setting?
You’ll be using the same e-bike fleet as always – with access to 500 e-bikes across the Basel region. The exact parking zone can be found in the app.
What are the fares and where can I get a ticket?
A valid public transport ticket or subscription for the desired route must be available. However, you don’t need to purchase an additional ticket for riding with Pick-e-Ride. The regular TNW tariff conditions apply. You can purchase the ticket at the usual sales points, through the “Tickets” app for iOS or Android, or on the bus before departure.
Do I have to wear a helmet if I’m riding at 25 km/h?
Yes. Helmets are mandatory on all Pick-e-Bike vehicles, regardless of the speed setting.
